Worshipping God, Following Jesus, Loving our town.
Rev. Dave Clarke, Minister.
Dave is the minister, and serves the church through leading the church leadership team. His role includes Bible teaching and preaching, pastoral and spiritual care, overseeing worship and prayer, and equipping the church for mission. Before coming to Malvern, Dave pastored churches in Kent and Hackney, and prior to that worked as an engineer in manufacturing. He is married to Sue, and they have 3 grown-up children. Dave enjoys walking, cycling, exercise and DIY.
John Berry, Deacon
Originally from `down-under’, John serves the church as a deacon. Formerly an air-traffic controller, John now works in retail. He is a keen supporter of Christians Together in Malvern, helps the church with the audio-visual ministry, and is church barbecue consultant.
Sue Chappell, Secretary
Sue serves as a deacon and as the current church secretary. With a heart for seeing children and young people come to know Jesus, Sue is involved with our Junior Church, Open the Book and Lifepath, and passionate about God’s work in Africa. Modern languages teacher by trade, domestic engineer and part of the sandwich generation. Daughter, Mum to the equally wonderful Joanna and Sarah, and, servant to two cats! Keen traveller (I enjoy meeting people of different backgrounds and cultures), reader and lifetime learner of piano playing.
Anthony Smith, Deacon
Anthony, a member of Malvern Baptist Church since 1993. He enjoys using his technical gifting for God, both for the church and the wider Christian community, including the Lyttelton Well and Churches Together (in Malvern). His pastimes include walking, reading SciFi novels, watching films, and role-playing games. Theologically, he is an evangelical (bible- believing born-again) Christian who is seeking to develop his personal relationship with God.
Andy Noble, Deacon
Andy hails from Hastings in East Sussex, but has been a Malvern resident since 1987. He is a relative newcomer at Malvern Baptist. His Christian journey began at a Baptist Church in Hastings and took him into a Church of England congregation where he served as a Reader for more than 25 years and 16 years involved in youth work. Being part of Malvern Baptist feels like returning home and Andy looks forward to journeying further with Jesus here. Andy is married to Angela and they have 3 grown-up children. Andy enjoys fishing, gardening, DIY and photography.
Stephen Ayling. Secretary
Steve is a deacon and serves the church as a home group leader and website organiser. He has recently retired as an engineer and scientist and looking forward to reading more books and travelling . He’s married to Alison and she is married to her rare breed sheep. We have three adult daughters . We’re both very supportive of Café Church and making the gospel accessible to non-church goers. He’s very interested in the early church, the Middle East and the plight of persecuted Christians around the world. He has a motor-scooter (or mobility scooter as the children call it) but hasn’t been anywhere much. He also has a bicycle but that doesn’t go anywhere too…
Bridget Saunders, Deacon
Bridget moved to Malvern in October 2021 when she married Jeff. Prior to that she lived in Hertfordshire and was a retired Primary School teacher. She has taught in a number of different schools in England and Tanzania, and also in a Bible College. She was a member of Tonbridge Baptist Church in Kent for many years, as well as an active member of an Anglican Church in Hertfordshire. She now volunteers with Open the Book in a local school and at Lyttleton Well bookshop. Her hobbies include walking on the Malverns, bird-watching, gardening, violin-playing in Malvern Community
Orchestra and singing with the Priory Praise Group.
David Slingsby, Treasurer
After living for many years in Stoke-on-Trent, and bringing up a family of three, David and his wife Lindsey moved near to Bosbury in 2018. This part of the country feels like coming home as Lindsey’s Mother’s family farmed in the area since the early 1900s, and David & Lindsey and family visited 4 or 5 times a year. After nearly 30 years as part of Trentham Methodist Church, Malvern Baptist Church feels both familiar and new. David’s background was originally in Electrical Engineering, but as with so many engineers, business roles took over, with an interesting mix of marketing, finance, project management, IT, sales management and risk management. Now retired, David spends his time on the small holding and as a Governor for the local primary school. Hobbies include walking/hiking, Scottish dancing, and would include drawing/painting and learning to play the piano if time allowed !
